Muraba Residences is a completed residential building on the Eastern Crescent of Palm Jumeirah, designed by the Catalan practice RCR Arquitectes for Muraba Properties. RCR received the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2017, and Muraba Residences was the firm’s first residential project, making it one of the few buildings in Dubai by a Pritzker laureate practice. Its calm, horizontal form sets it apart from the more ornate towers around it.

The architecture was shaped by the path of the sun and the direction of the views. Every residence faces the sea, and full-height glazed balconies run along each floor, looking across the Gulf towards the Burj Al Arab. Textured glass louvres with a rippling pattern screen the facades, controlling light and protecting privacy while allowing daylight to reach deep into the plan through a system of glass slits. The palette of glass, steel and concrete is deliberately restrained, and the interiors carry the same pared-back approach, with soft colours and uncluttered open-plan living areas. Sky-Frame glazing systems allow the living spaces to open fully to the terraces.

The building rises ten storeys and holds a small number of homes: two and three-bedroom apartments, with four and five-bedroom penthouses on the upper levels. The apartments are arranged so that each enjoys a direct sea outlook, and the penthouses offer larger indoor and outdoor areas with wide terraces facing the water. The low number of units gives residents a quiet, private setting, and apartments are notably spacious in comparison with many Palm towers.

Shared facilities are designed in the same spirit as the architecture. A swimming pool stretches across the full width of the building and connects to the gym and spa, while residents also have a steam room and direct access to a private beach. Valet parking and concierge services support day-to-day life. The result is a set of amenities that feels like an extension of the homes rather than a separate resort, used by a small number of residents who know one another.

The Eastern Crescent offers a quieter setting than the trunk of the Palm, with open water on one side and the skyline on the other. The island’s hotels, beach clubs and restaurants are a short drive away, and the Palm tunnel and trunk connect quickly to Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Marina and Dubai Media City. Downtown Dubai and Dubai International Airport are reached comfortably by car.

Muraba Properties chose to work with RCR Arquitectes at a time when the studio was little known in the region, and the building has since been published widely in the international architecture press, including Dezeen and ArchDaily. It remains the developer’s signature statement on the Palm. Because the building is complete, homes are now bought on the resale market, where supply is limited by the small size of the building. It suits buyers who value serious architecture, a beachfront address and a ready home, and long-term owners who see lasting appeal in a building with genuine design provenance.
